RC Gas Boats vs. Nitro Boats

Many boat enthusiasts inadvertently compare gas-powered boats and nitro-powered boats with each other. Even if these two are far different from electric remote-controlled boats, they still have very distinct differences from each other. These differences are what you should know before you even try to spend big amounts of cash to buy either one.

  • Fuel is what differentiates the two. Radio-controlled boats that run on nitro make use of blends of nitro, methane and oil lubricant. These are combined in a specific manner to make nitro watercraft engines run. The fuel used on boats with nitro engine will not properly function on RC gas boats. Even further, the RC gas boats that receive the fuel can acquire big damage. Boats that run on gas engines use a combination of oil and gasoline. Engine used in such boats can be likened to a lawnmower engine.
  • Runtime and the cost of fuel are differentiating factors. Nitro RC boats are faster than gas boats. However, gas-engine boats have a longer runtime than the nitro boats. The fuel that nitro boats run on is burnt faster than the gas and oil mixture of RC gas boats. The gasoline and oil mixture of gas boats is certainly cheaper than the fuel used by nitro models. In summary, you can tell that it is more expensive to operate nitro boats than gas-engine models. This is because the fuel burns faster and its price is higher.
  • RC gas boats require little engine maintenance. Tuning skills are necessary for boats that run on nitro because of the carburetor, filer, pipe, fuel filter and cooling head. These are all required to be maintained to ensure that the boat is operating at its optimum level. Boats that run on gas only require the plug and play of batteries; weather and temperature have no effect on its tuning.
  • RC gas boats are more expensive than nitro boats. This is because in the long run, you will be spending more for nitro boats than gas-engine boats. You can purchase a nitro-engine boat at around $350 while you need at least a thousand dollars for a single piece of gas-engine boat.

The differences between these two engine models can give you a clear picture of the costs you may entail in operating either of the two. In choosing which engine to purchase, you must consider your budget, time and ability to maintain these remote-controlled toys.
