There are two things every person loves; an awesome event and raising money. So if you want to raise money for your favorite organization, why not throw a radio control boat event? It is actually pretty easy. You still need to be somewhat official if you plan on inviting the big dogs and you want some people to donate big money.
On the other hand, instead of having people or counting on people to donate to the event, you could also do a cover charge. Say you invite 500 people and you do a coverage of just $10 a head. That right there is $5,000! For this event you will need a few different facets. First off, you will need racers who want to race their radio control boat. This can either be more on the serious side, or you could invite children or young people to do this that would not usually have a chance for something fun like this. Think less fortunate children.
Also, you will need music, food, and party supplies like chairs, tables and tents. I think a really cool option to go with is a caterer because a lot of the time if you are doing a party for an organization for donation plans, some of these caterers will actually give you a price cut on the overhead costs. And if the event organization is something near and dear to their heart, they might even do it for free.
The caterer is also nice because they have their hand in other services you need as well such as the need for silverware, dinnerware, plates, chairs and tables. So even if they cannot do it for you, they probably know someone that can! Now for the actual radio control boat race you will need to find a body of water that you are permitted to have the race or the regatta.
Sometimes you might need a permit, so it is a good idea to check all of this out beforehand. We have a park near our home that is 3010-acres. You can use the space for all sorts of things like parties, get together’s, picnics, ice skating, etc. But, they have the huge lake right in the middle of the park which is about 75 acres – pretty big! You can either use the entire lake, which seems a little too much in this instance, or you could just cordon off a section and allow the radio control boats to race in one spot.
There will also need to be officials. This can either be done by you, or by people you hire. If this is something super serious and more on the formal side, you would want to definitely hire officials that can do it for you so that you know everything is going to be on the up and up. This is something fun, so remember to tell your guests to have fun! Raise some money, have some good food, talk with nice people and have a wonderful day!
